Plain-language summary. PlayBadminton helps organizers run drop-in badminton sessions and helps players sign up for them. To do that, we collect your name, contact info, and the sessions you create or join. We share your contact info with the organizer of any session you sign up for (and with site administrators), and we use trusted providers for email, payments, and hosting. We do not sell your data.
Who we are
PlayBadminton (“PlayBadminton”, “we”, “us”) operates the website at playbadminton.live. The platform lets organizers post drop-in badminton sessions and lets players sign up for them. This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through the site.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- Account details — name, email address, and (optionally) phone number used to create and sign in to your account.
- Authentication data — when you sign in with Google, Apple, magic link, or phone OTP, we receive a verified email address or phone number from that provider. We do not receive your password.
- Profile information — display name, avatar, and skill level if you choose to add them.
- Session data — sessions you create as an organizer (name, date, location, price, notes) and sessions you sign up for as a player, including waitlist position.
- Payment data — if you subscribe to a paid organizer plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We store the resulting subscription status and a Stripe customer ID, but we never see or store your full card number.
- Communications — messages you send through the “Contact organizer” feature, support requests, and email delivery logs (so we can troubleshoot bounces and unsubscribe requests).
- Technical data — standard request logs from our hosting provider (IP address, user agent, timestamps) used to keep the service running and detect abuse.
How we use it
- To create and secure your account.
- To show organizers the roster and waitlist for sessions they run, and to show players the sessions available to them.
- To send transactional emails you'd expect: sign-in links, signup confirmations, payment reminders, session updates, cancellations, and waitlist promotions.
- To process payments and manage subscriptions via Stripe.
- To respond to support requests and messages sent through the site.
- To prevent abuse, enforce our terms, and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising or behavioural profiling.
Legal basis (EEA / UK users)
Where applicable law requires it, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of our agreement with you (running the platform), your consent (e.g. optional profile fields and marketing-style communications you opt into), our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, and compliance with legal obligations.
How long we keep it
We keep account and session data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information from our active systems within a reasonable period, except where we need to retain limited records for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution purposes (for example, payment records required by tax law).
Email delivery logs, suppression lists, and unsubscribe records are retained so we can honour opt-outs and diagnose delivery issues.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can:
- Update your profile and contact information from your account settings.
- Unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link at the bottom of those emails.
- Delete your account from your account settings, or by contacting us.
- Contact us with any other privacy request (see below).
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your data, including encryption in transit, row-level security in the database, role-based access controls, and re-authentication for privileged administrative actions. No system is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to reduce risk.
Children
PlayBadminton is not directed to children under the age of majority in their jurisdiction. If you are under that age, you may use the service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
We and our service providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for international data transfers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the “Last updated” date at the top, and where appropriate notify you by email or through the site.
